For the past few years, Sitting Bull College Library has been working with the Spurlock Museum at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champlain to identify a collection of hundreds of photographs taken in and around Standing Rock from the 1930s through the 1950s.
While some photographs are clearly identified, many others fail to list the people, places and times pictured, requiring further definition. The photos are from a collection created by Reginald and Gladys Laubin, most famous as authors of various books on Native American subjects. Below is a sample of the hundreds of photographs, organized in database format, available for viewing in a binder at Sitting Bull College Library.
Please stop by the library to help us in identification and possibly discover new photos of family or ancestors. The photo below was likely taken during a Second World War VE (Victory Europe) celebration in Cannon Ball and provides a sample of the hundreds of Standing Rock photos in the collection.
