The Native American Scholars Initiative (NASI) Undergraduate Summer Internship provides an opportunity for 3 talented undergraduates to conduct research, to explore career possibilities in archives and special collections, and to learn about advanced training in Native American and Indigenous Studies and related fields. This eight-week paid internship program at the American Philosophical Society Library in Philadelphia will offer a hands-on research experience and will include mentorship and networking opportunities. The APS Library has rich and varied collections related to over 440 different Indigenous cultures throughout the Americas. Working with mentors, interns will develop their own archives-based projects or pursue research projects identified by the Indigenous communities with which the Center for Native American and Indigenous Research (CNAIR) interacts and collaborates.
The deadline for applications is March 2. Full information can be found here
The NASI program also offers pre-doctoral and post-doctoral residential fellowships (deadline February 2), as well as newer kind of fellowship we would especially like to spread the word about: the Digital Knowledge Sharing (DKS) Fellowships (deadline March 2). These DKS Fellowships are open to people working on topics related to Indigenous language, culture, and history, who need to do archival research at the APS Library or elsewhere in order to complete their projects. Preference will be given to those who are working closely with Native communities and who plan to share their research with Native communities. Full information on these can be found at the NASI program page
