In June of 1974 a treaty conference was held in Wakpala, South Dakota on Standing Rock. According to documents, representatives from 97 indigenous nations attended and the proceedings were a step on the road to the later United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Sitting Bull College Library has a collection of photographs from that event.
This week, another treaty meeting is being held in Wakpala, South Dakota.
