The amount of research of all kinds done on Standing Rock available as publications is relatively limited. Because of this, the few things that are published become valuable at the local level as tools to be employed for the good of the community. Dr. Morgan Ruelle of Cornell University has had a long relationship with Standing Rock dating back to his time as a Vista volunteer over a decade ago. His publications continue to illuminate important aspects of local life, especially relating to our local food systems.
While most of his publications are available only through the library, through the wonder of open access journals and open initiatives at Cornell, two of his publications are free online: Practicing Food Sovereignty: Spatial Analysis of an Emergent Food System for the Standing Rock Nation can be read or downloaded here and his thesis titled Plants And Foodways Of The Standing Rock Nation: Diversity, Knowledge, And Sovereignty can be found here.
