C.L. Fuller (Clarence) ran a photographic studio for a time in Fort Yates, North Dakota. He presumably worked in the studio handed down by the more well known 1880s photographers Orlando Goff and D.F. Barry. Somewhere about the same time, he joined with S.T. Fansler, who later became the mentor of the prolific early 20th century Standing Rock photographer Frank Fiske. Fiske later took over the studio and local lore still remembers its location.
More research is needed to tease out the full story of these storied photographers and the local studio that spawned so many iconic photographs. Below is a photo of an unknown, stoic little boy from the archives at Sitting Bull College.
