Two decades ago, Standing Rock and Sitting Bull College ethnobotanist Linda Black Elk in collaboration with Lakota elder, and at that time, Sitting Bull College Native American Studies Department head Wilbur Flying By Sr. created a guide to significant plants and their uses. It is still an invaluable reference to the Lakota, Latin and English names for 334 plants in addition to succinct summaries of their uses. The publication can be found online here where it can be referenced, downloaded and printed.
