Aerial photograph of Fort Yates, ND in 1938 taken from North Dakota Aerial Photography Dissemination Map service
The North Dakota Aerial Photography Dissemination Map Service is a useful tool to use and download publicly available map images by county from various periods of time. The screenshot above shows Fort Yates in 1938 prior to the permanent flooding that made it the island it is today. I will share more interesting photos from this tool as time goes by, though you can do it yourself by clicking on the link above. Contact the library if you have any questions regarding using the tool.
A reference question regarding historical garden spaces yielded this photograph showing a space the size of multiple football fields (light colored block along river to the right) that once existed in the now permanently flooded bottom lands.
